Dr. Dorothy Nakimbugwe is a founding Director for Nutreal limited and an Associate Professor in the Department of Food Technology & Nutrition at Makerere University. She has a PhD in Bioscience Engineering from the Katholieke University of Leuven, Belgium; and MSc in Food Science from Cornell University, New York, USA and a BSc. in Food Science & Technology, Makerere University, Uganda.

Since 2007, her research focuses on developing nutrient-enhanced, value added food products that address current nutrition and health challenges, from locally available food crops. She is also involved in collaborative and multi-disciplinary research projects addressing bottle-necks limiting value chains of common foods, such as beans, maize, grain amaranth and fish.

In the current decade, Dr. Nakimbugwe is involved in cutting-edge research on insects for food and feed, a topic that has captured global attention, in response to the challenge to feed the growing population on diminishing resources.

She had served in different capacities in community-based, national, regional and international projects and programsincluding the Uganda Oil Seed Sub-sector Platform (OSSUP). She has provided consultancy services in various food and agro-processing sectors and organizations including: Several assignments with the International Trade Centre (ITC, MitreekAgro-processing Upgrading Program (MAAP); Solutions for African Food Enterprises (SAFE)/TechnoServe; Integrating Gender and Nutrition within Agricultural Extension Services (INGENAES) and; Food Safety System Training Program forAfrica, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries - EDES/COLEACP EDES Project.

She is a Board member for Community Action for Health (CAfH) and Farm Radio International where she deputizes the Board Chair; a Fellow of the Uganda National Academy of Sciences (UNAS) as well as a former Finance committee member and current Risk and Ethics committee member for UNAS.Β
